The City of Iqaluit and your bargaining team have been in Collective Bargaining since January 2016.
In April 2016 negotiations broke down between the City of Iqaluit and your bargaining team. At that point, your bargaining team decided to file for conciliation. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances and beyond the control of the City of Iqaluit and your bargaining team, the Essential Services Agreement (ESA) was not able to be signed by the City (Employer) at that time.
The ESA has now been signed by the Employer. Now that this requirement for filing for conciliation has been met, your bargaining team can now start the process of filing for conciliation.
The only issue that has changed or arisen since April 2016 is the potential contracting out of city work. This issue is currently being addressed with the aid of the PSAC Legal Officer.
We will provide an update as soon as the filing for conciliation process has been completed and/or if the issue of contracting out changes or proceeds.
In Solidarity,
Your Bargaining Team
