The strength of a Union is its Members. That is why Locals are set up on a geographic and or employer level so that these Locals are able to reflect and respond to the needs of Members on a “local” and personalized level. The NEU has recently held Local Annual General Meetings (AGMs) in Baker Lake, Rankin Inlet and Kinngait that led to the establishment of functioning and responsive Locals led by Members within each of those communities. NEU staff are available to assist in setting up Local AGMs in any community. This assistance is available from the set-up (including informing Members within a community of dates) to providing door prizes and participating in the AGM to ensure that election of Local Officials is completed in accordance with NEU bylaws and regulations. If you are part of a Local looking to set up an AGM, or an individual looking to become more involved in your Union, please email communications@neu.ca or call the NEU Head Office at 867.979.4209 (within Iqaluit) or toll free from elsewhere in Nunavut at 877.243.442.
